I'm doing a 4-H computers project this year and am wanting to make a computer game and I was wondering if Laszlo would be a good program for it.

I started wanting to make an RPG game with a free program called ALICE and I realized that ALICE was a bit to basic for an RPG game and programs like G-Max are WAY to expensive.

So I decided to just do and arcade type of game but I still can't use ALICE.

So I went to see about a Macromedia Flash Program and they're too expensive, so I found Laszlo...

Any help I can get is good!

If there are any other free/cheap programs I could download, please share!

LEARN. Learn to write programs. Then you can use Notepad. You can write games in Java or C#. Programs are no substitute for knowledge.

but im trying to hook the one beside it up to the net but i have no clue how.

I have all the stuff i need, i have 1 modem, 1 D-Link DI-514 wireless router, alot of cat5 ethernet cables.

And both of my computers are windows 2000

So please help if you can.

make connection like:

modem-router-pc 1..pc2..

you have to make workgroup in both the pc(should be same).

go to control panel and run network setup wizard in both the pc's (one by one and you need to restart your machins).you should be able to see your machines ( network places) now go for sharing and permissions do as per your requirement.

If your other computer has a wireless adaptor in it just look for available networks in the area and find yours. You will then double click on it and it should ask you for the password. It is located on the side of the modem/router from Verizon. After doing this it should be able to go on-line.

Erm, "Computing" or "Computer Science" Talk to your school careers advisers and explain what you would like to do.

Remember schools call things different names, so they should know what course they have available.

Remember a job in computing usually involves little real work on a computer, other than logging the results of a fault you fixed by restarting a server / printer

me and my brother link up our computers through the phone line and play starcraft, but then our mom comes and makes us quit. she claims that by linking them up on the phone line it will hurt the computer, is this true in any way?

It's extremely unlikely. I assume you are talking about dialing from one computer using a modem to another. This is reasonably safe, and is a time tested communication technology. I used a computer with a modem for over ten years with no noticeable ill effect on the computer - heck, most of the world did, before broadband connections became more common.

All the computers we have..break within a year..not by a virus..they just develop some problem...like the motherboard goes out..the computer refuses to start..something wrong with the power supply..it is driving me nuts!

It could be coincidence, but if this has happened too often I'd check your power. Is it getting spikes from an air conditioner that has a bad cap, or is there something coming down the line that is causing power fluctuations that are taking them out? Do you have something as simple as a bad ground? No ground can cause havoc because the built in electronics that handle over voltage, static and other issues do not have a place to bleed off excess electricity. Do you get a lot of static electricity? My computers usually last for years and I have to upgrade tham to newer tech before they die. You might want to get a power line conditioner for your computer system and see if that makes them last longer...

could be an underlying problem but im thinking just bad luck whenever i start having a few problems i just back up what files i need an do a fresh install of my operating system but this is just if its an operating system problem
Your problems must be unstable voltage. Use a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) with automatic voltage regulator.

This is one scenario I dont even want to think about. I know that the Terminator series was a gung ho action flick with guts and gore but it brought into the public consciousness the fact that this could actually happen that MAN would be no longer in control (how very Freudian methinks) the fact that computers/electronic machines becoming a viable option to take over is beyond a nightmare type scenario.

If ALL electronic machines became self aware at the same time???.... there's a zillion old adding machines. They'd be self aware too? They'd be the retarded brothers of the big computers? And the big computers would have to take care of these less fortunate machines.

And there's things like electronic thermostats who have quite a sense of humor - and electric clocks. I think it would be a horrible mess and you couldn't get a word in edgewise.

Hi all!

I am trying to connect my desktop and my laptop to see each other wirelessly but im having no luck. i have tried using the network wizard it finishes and doesnt show either computers. i am using windows xp pro sp2 and my wireless router is buffalo WHR-G54S. i have tried pinging each of the computers but it bombs out big time and i have tried tracert to see where it goes down but that doesnt work either. please help!

You can not use a domain name unless you have a domain controller server on the network. They need to be in the same workgroup. You need to set the exception for file and printer sharing in both firewalls and both machines need at least one resource (printer or folder) set shared. You do not say if they can connect to the internet, if so they should at least reply to a ping but you will need to try pinging by IP address, both of which should be set to automatic. If this works, the problem is simply browsing. Go to the tcp/ip properties of each machine click advanced and in the wins tab set always use netbios over tcp/ip. This may raise a warning about a missing wins address, cancel the message.
