Before computers?

Hi,

i have an assignment due about how accounting was done before the invention of computers, internet and cell phones. if someone could help with a website or something it would be greatly appreciated

Before computers?internet

They used their brains, a calculator, an abacus, figured it out on paper, etc! :)

Before computers?network

adding machines

manual 10-key machines

paper and pencils

invoices

paper bills

writing checks

using typewriters for spread sheets

Normal office phones (with several push-button extensions, if necessary)
ok. brains were used and the chinese used a counting frame. I can do basic maths in my head quicker than you can put the numbers into calculator. This skill is mostly lost now. Try this website

it was done with brains
more tediously with pencil and paper, but your assignment should take you to a few historical documents which you can google or find at your local library not on yahoo answers. The point of your assignment is to learn how to do research which you won't learn if someone else does it for you.
Before computers, Accounting was done with papers like worksheets, pencils and sign pens. This was literally manual Bookkeeping.

Calculations were also done manually , the chinese used the abacus for calculation. some people used non-electronic adding machines (pre-calculators) which is similar to casino slot machines in terms of manually operating it. Users would pull down a lever several times according to the numbers added or subtracted.

reports were also written or typewritten using a manual typewriter.

It was done with pencils, paper, and brain-power.
