My computers CD ROM is unresponsive?

It will open and everything but it says that there is nothing in the drive, but there is. I have an Hp Pavilion a700n. And i know pretty much nothing about computers.

Odds are the drive is bad and needs replaced.The laser could be bad or misaligned it is hard to tell. If you can get some help to try a different one to test that would make sure. Good Luck

how long have you had the pc for? today's cd roms don't last to long..probably 2 years to a year...especailly if you use it a lot. with laptops the life of a cd dvd player is longer but with a pc it's not.

easy to replace in a pc and will run you between 50 to 100 bucks.
bad disk,,,,try a few that you know worked and if 8 of them

are not seen then tell us

When your pc boots after the bios post,,,,if you do not see

the drive then its bad,,,,if you see it listed it should be ok
Replace the CD-Rom Drive. You can do it your self. cost less than $ 20 CAD.
try going to to your start tab on desk top ...all programs look for hp pavilion accessories..and there should be a driver reset tool button...if this doesnt not work try some of these sites.best bet...

Have you installed any programs that have to do with CD/DVDs recently? Sometimes those programs lock up the drive until the computer is rebooted. Sometimes a simple fix but a welcome one :) Try restarting the computer. If that doesn't work, try different CDs in the drive.
