Our computers will read and play CDs, but not DVDs?

What the title says, BOTH of our computers are doing it for some reason.. and it's NOT the DVD because it won't read other DVDs too.

you need media program software to play dvds
dvd has its own set of drivers i imagine you need a dvd playing device for that as well.
Need a bit more info. What type of computer, operating system, what type of DVD drive? Do you get an error message or does nothing happen at all? It may be that you don't have a DVD player program.

or [embarrassed] you only have a CD player %26 not a DVD drive at all. DVD's do not work in CD players.
than it is not a DVD reader, just a CD reader than.
u have to have 2 compartment one thats says for dvd roms it should be the first one this computer that i have will play it cause i have a dvd rom
