Despite having a good knowledge of computers/technology I find myself completely ignorant in this one area, and so I'll ask.

I have a wireless adapter card in each of the two computers, is this all I need or do I need more?

And how do I go about networking them?

well you can do what they said and purchase a wireless switch or you can buy two wireless dongles (blue tooth) which all you initially have to do is connect them (to the computer) and find them (on your computer).

Click Set up a wireless connection between two computers (have your Wi-Fi button switched on now)

Yes, you can do this for to this you have network card in both system and cross cable of cat5. Then run the network setup wizard on both machines and share the folder you want to tranfer the data. Now you can access shared folders on either machine and copy paste your data

Well, I was gonna suggest COD 4, but since you're already playing it, I'm thinking, maybe Battlefield? If you're into real-time strats, try Dark Crusade or Warcraft. Maybe you could go with World of Warcraft and/or other games similar like Ragnarok.

I think there are strong arguments for both sides.

Computers are damaging social skills in many ways.

1. Decreased spelling ability for the average student, and over usage of acronyms (I'm at the crotchety old age of 24 and had all of this omfg, lmfao, ttyl B.S.)

2. Less direct social interaction. This is much more legit than my complain in the first point. When people come together socially and interact, there are much more ideas being communicated than simply the words expressed. The body language, the eye contact, the subtle unconscious reactions (blushing, flinching). ALL of these lead to a more accurate conveyance of an idea or story. When only email/text/IM is being utilized, it's reducing the amount of information being transferred. It makes it less personal, less real.

How many of you may remember years ago when sometimes someone could walk by a radio and it would cause static?? Or touch a TV antenna and create "snow" on the TV screen?? I'm one of those people that used to cause these things - my local corner coffee shop used to have my coffee ready and waiting for me, they knew I was coming as the radio would go all static!

Oh stop laughing LOL...I'm serious...it' s the *only* thing I can think of to explain what happens to *every* computer I've ever had over the past 15 years or so...yup I said years! Programs, games slowing down or hanging, graphics "folding in on themselves", connection problems, and more. Do diagnostics or take in to have it checked, and nothing is ever found wrong! When loading up computer hit f8 (it might be f10) and it should let you chose " safe mode " open with this and choose " administrator " then go to user accounts and you can remove users and passwords. Then remove password and restart computer and hey presto your in. Hope this helps you out Mate.

you want the live cd , download and burn it to a disc (you know how to burn a disc image right?) then just put it into the locked comps drive and turn it on, it will start into the cd , tell it the password you want it to crack and it will get it for you.

You will need to get a program called erd. This program has a locksmith in it to chang the password to what you what it to be. It boots up on a cd-rom. This might help you out.

More info would be very helpful. What OS? If Vista do not use Adaware (unless you want to give the Beta version a shot). Do you have a firewall? Do you have only one anti-virus program working? Did it get slower recently after a download? Did you switch to AVG 8.0 (much slower than 7.5)? Are you running Spybot (you should). Do you have sufficient hard drive space, sufficient ram, etc?
If the system is old contact somebody who knows about computers. Ask them for a 'back up and reinstalation of operating system.' this will remove all unwanted files, reset the Registry (this is what makes it slow.) and it should work like a new computer.

You shouldn't have a problem with those apps as far as XP Home/Pro. They should run fine on either. BUT, Photoshop %26 Illustrator are huge memory hogs. I hope your PC has 1 GB or better of RAM.

As for not sharing, you can either not set it up on the 4th system and depend on ignorance, or you can set passwords and require "authorized users" to log in.

If we're talking about XP Home, then the options are limited. You would need to set a password which should be an option on the "sharing" tab under properties of the drive.

If all needing access have XP Pro, then you should first make sure "Simple File Sharing" is disabled. Then on your sharing tab you will see more options - definitely the password issue.

Dude, most NEW computers run AT LEAST $600. If it's a relatively old one (Pentium III, for instance) then $80 ain't a bad buy, but if it has something like a Pentium Celeron, then $80 is wayyyyyyyyy cheap. Slightly higher, if it's Celeron or newer, otherwise it's perfectly fine.

go to start menu, control panel, network connections, on the left hand side, click my network places, then clikc view workgroup computers, is your other PC there? If not use the the home network setup wizard. You can right click on files in either PC and share them on your network, you can do the same for the hard drives, it is fairly simple to do.

If you are just wanting to share files, on one computer, right-click the folder that the files are in and choose "Sharing and Security". On the page that comes up, choose the radio button next to "Share this folder". By default it will share it to anyone, which is not very secure, but works. You can adjust who can see it by using the permissions button. Once your done, click OK. On the other computer, you should now be able to see the first computers shared folder. You can browse to it several ways, I usually click "Start" then "run" then type in the name of the computer using this format: \\ComputerName then click OK, and it will show you all available shares on that machine.
make sure they are on the same workgroup (control panel %26gt; system %26gt; computer name tab %26gt; click on change if needed)

I would say use it before any major changes to your system and also at regular intervals too - it does give you a point that you can roll back to if you get system problems. When doing major installs I usually create restore points before and immediately after the install

However, do not rely on it as your only backup source as not everything is backed up in the restore point.

If both the PCs have USB sockets, the best option is to buy a USB Pen Drive (also known as Flash Drive and other names). These can cost less than 拢5, depending on storage capacity, and can be re-used, unlike standard CDs.

Just plug both into the router using the network cables. If you've got the sharing set up, the router will handle "routing" the traffic between the two machines for you.

You should make sure both computers are in the same workgroup. By default, when you setup the os with network, you would be in the 'workgroup' workgroup. To enable file sharing, right click on the folders to be shared and select 'sharing'.

I once asked a question: "My computer's hard drive crashed, and won't work anymore. What can I do?" and the answer was "restart your computer". Hello! I want some people who know what they are talking about.

I figure if you know what a hard-drive is, you know something about HTML, and you know what an ISP is, you can know enough to answer a simple question without dumb answers like "make sure your computer is on" or "make sure all the cords are plugged in".

If you're using Windows XP:

I'll assume you've connected both PC...

1. Set one of your computer (the one with modem) as a server by setting it's TCP/IP value to 192.168.0.1

2. set the other one to 192.168.0.2, then set the gateway 192.168.0.1

3. Go online and see that both computer can connect to internet

If you're using Windows98, the process is a bit trickier and the failure percentage is quite big

1. Set your server IP the same as above

2. Insert your win98 CD, install Internet Connection Sharing

3. On your second computer, set the Ip setting into "Obtain address automatically"

It's should work after reboot.

But how do I share it to just ONE computer. So, I don't want who ever's on computer 4 using it.. So I just want it conected to computer 2.

You can't prevent it showing to the network. You can set up a user on the serving machine to match the user on the client you want to share it with. Same user name, same password. Then right click the drive, add this user and the local user to it's access list. Set full control to both users, then remove all other access to it. This way if anyone else tries to access it they get a user and password request, followed by a refusal.

Simply do not map it to the computers that you don't want using it, you can remove aministrative rights from the corresponding machines elliminating mapping of network drives. Be careful when attaching network storage esspecially an internal disk that may be your system drive the hardware battle that sometimes follows can sometimes cause serious hardware faults. I usually only do this with non system disks such as media storage.

Why can't I save web pages in certain computers but I can do it in others?

Sometimes when I am busy or when I found news articles on the internet that are extremely interesting, I like to save the web pages on my computers to be read at a later time at my perusal. However, I found that I cannot do that on all computers. It seems some computers do not allow me to do that. When I tried to save the web pages on them, I get the message "The Web page could not be saved to the selected location." Yet, I can do that on the other computers without any problems.

May I know why is this like that? What can I do to allow a computer to save the web pages without difficulty so that I can read them at my own time?

My computers time is changed by half an hour. When I correct the time and again start the machine next day the time has changed by half an hour. I usually do not allow to update time automatically.

Yea just buy a router if you plan on using ethernet cords. Connect your Cable or DSL modem to your 1st port of the router, and just plug in yourself in anyone of the other ports on your router except the uplink port. Same goes with your other computer, any port except the uplink one. For your other worries, nah they won't charge you for having multiple computers on your internet connection. For example if you wanted to have a PC party, You and 20 or more people can share your internet, provided you have enough ports for them, Oh and use hubs to link up to your router and branch it for multiple PCs. Example of that would be say both of your computers are hooked in to your router, you can hook in a hub to your uplink and have 4-5 more other people sharing that same line as you are. If you want more people, have another hub hookin the 1st hubs uplink, and your gold. Want even more people just repeat. Assuming everyones got the right protocols, but thats a whole new topic.

Alright yo udo need to run The network Setup wizard on all of your Pc's that you want to connect to. The biggest key to getting it all to work is that you make sure the NAME you provide for the WORKGROUP is the same on all the PC's. Once you have finished the wizard you should be set. The firewall will not be an issue once you run the wizard unless you have one running on your Router.

If you do than you need to set your router to allow file %26 print sharing between the PCs. you wil be set then. Enjoy!!

So I decided to just do and arcade type of game but I still can't use ALICE.

So I went to see about a Macromedia Flash Program and they're too expensive, so I found Laszlo...

you have to make workgroup in both the pc(should be same).

If your other computer has a wireless adaptor in it just look for available networks in the area and find yours. You will then double click on it and it should ask you for the password. It is located on the side of the modem/router from Verizon. After doing this it should be able to go on-line.

It's extremely unlikely. I assume you are talking about dialing from one computer using a modem to another. This is reasonably safe, and is a time tested communication technology. I used a computer with a modem for over ten years with no noticeable ill effect on the computer - heck, most of the world did, before broadband connections became more common.

It could be coincidence, but if this has happened too often I'd check your power. Is it getting spikes from an air conditioner that has a bad cap, or is there something coming down the line that is causing power fluctuations that are taking them out? Do you have something as simple as a bad ground? No ground can cause havoc because the built in electronics that handle over voltage, static and other issues do not have a place to bleed off excess electricity. Do you get a lot of static electricity? My computers usually last for years and I have to upgrade tham to newer tech before they die. You might want to get a power line conditioner for your computer system and see if that makes them last longer...
