I've got 2 new computers running Windows XP, and I'm trying to add them to a small network, with a server running Windows 2000. I try to join them, but recieve an error stating "The server cannot perform that operation". I check the server, and the computer accounts have been disabled. I re-enable them, but the same thing happens. I'm not sure what's wrong, or what the solution would be, short of recreating the domain.
Why won't my computers add to the domain?computer security
Two potential issues. First, if the workstations are not running XP Pro, you can't join them to a domain. You can put them on the same subnet and give them access to network resources via user accounts, but you cannot "join", period.
Second, if you're not using Small Business Server, delete the computer accounts from active directory, make sure the server is their primary DNS server, then join the workstations via the wizard on the workstation, not from the server.

Is the Windows XP a pro version or a home version... you need to be using professional.. that could be your problem
