My computers dvd/cd-rw combination drive wont read DVD-R disks?

my computers dvd/cd-rw combination drive wont read dvd-r disks?

it reads dvd movies, yet for some reason whenever i place a blank dvd-r cd it wont read it?!!!

is there anyway i can get it to read them?

or do i have to buy something else?

*Its an e-machine T3504 Desktop PC if that helps with anything

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Your dvd/cd-rw won't burn blank dvd's. It will only burn blank cd's. So why are you putting in a "blank dvd-r"? If you want to burn dvd's you going to have to upgrade to a dvd burner.
