Connecting computers via router?

2 computers: my laptop and a family desktop. Both running XP (mine's Home Ed. and the other one runs Pro) and connected to the 'net over the router. I can see the desktop on my laptop in Network Places, under the workgroup I've set up, but I can't access it:

"\\Family is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..."

From the family desktop I can't see anything in the workgroup; I get the same error message:

"\\WORKGROUP is not accessible. You might not have ..."

File n' printer sharing is active on both and ZoneAlaram is running. Turning off the firewall doesn't do anything. IP addresses are correct, workgroup is correct, there's at least a shared folder on both, every possible thing is correct... and I don't understand why these 2 can not access each other.

Ok.. i get your problem

what you should do is go to Tools (when "my computer" is open)

then --%26gt; Map Network Drive

then --%26gt; Chose the drive and the Folder you want to access

then --%26gt; Connect Using a Different Username

then --%26gt; Chose a User and write the Password from the Other computer ur using..

then click on Finish

That's what I do, because the same thign I sometimes need to access files on the family computer while i'm using my own laptop
