I have created a network. using the wizard, both computers are using Windows XP.?

One computer cannot connect to the windows work group. BOth computers have it under the same name. I am using a linksys. One computer can see the other computer in the work group but cant connect to it. i dont know what to do

I have created a network. using the wizard, both computers are using Windows XP.?windows

Give each computer an static ipaddress

Right click on my network places

Right click on the LAN connection

Double click on tcpip

Check use following ipaddress.

Before entering the ipaddress

go to start - run and type cmd

type in there ipconfig

Check the ipaddress that you have

Use that ipaddress on the tcpip settings

Do the same to both computer. After its done go ahead

and try to ping each other.

Start -run - type cmd

type in ping 192.18.x.x. (x being w/e number the other computer has.

If you get 4 replies then you have a good connection.

Share both computer's c drive.

Go to my computer, right click the C drive and go to properties then click on the SHARING tab. Share the drive. Make sure you check Allow network users to make changes

Then restart both machines.

Try to go see them again over the network.

If you cant see them over the network, ping them again to make sure that they still see each other. Then go to start - run - and type \\192.168.x.x and see if that takes you into the other computer's shared files.
