Self assembled computers?

How sellable are shop assembled PCs compared to branded ones like Dell? Who buys such computers?

People who like low-cost but high quality gaming rigs sometimes buy such computers. I have met a few people who made a living doing this, so it must be at least somewhat profitable.

Shop assembled PC's are very sale able. With most Shop assembled PC's you, the user, is in complete control of the computer you buy. Most are of higher quality than Dell or HP. As a Computer company owner, I have found that people who buy custom built systems are usually experienced users looking for something above the average shelf system. They usually have a specific need (IE. Games, Video or audio production, Digital imaging etc) that can not be really fulfilled by a branded company like Dell. They are looking for high quality, reliability, and a personal relationship with the system builder and the company. Most, don't want to call India for technical support and prefer the personal attention a local company can provide. The Brands I sell are Asus (the number one rated motherboard in the world) Kingston Ram, Intel, AMD, etc. Purchasers are not restricted when it comes to upgrading their systems often limited by the case or other constraints in a Dell or HP system (I pick on Dell because I have a love hate relationship with them. I love them because I do about 80% of my repair work on them. I hate them because of poor quality, bad customer service, and predatory business practices). Who buys Dell? People that are new users, those that complete basic tasks, those that believe "Dude your getting a Dell" marketing etc. I do have to concede that Dell has become a little more in tune with market demands in that they are allowing people a little more wiggle room in creating their own systems. But don't be fooled. Do this for yourself, go to Yahoo and search Hate Dell there are 4,680,000 hits for Hate Dell. This along with blogs and user groups has to tell you something. I think when people decide to purchase something, like a computer, they should be happy before, during and especially after the sale. I don't think many Dell customers can say this. In any case, this is my opinion and I hope you, and others, find some truths here.

Good Luck
Anyone that wants a custom built computer. They are extremely sellable. So long as people get tired of buying computers that you ....1. cant buy replacement parts for. 2. Are built to factory specs, not the users. And 3. In general, last about 12 months tops. Custom built PCs are built to the customers exact needs, not whatever makes the BIG company the most profit. And the gamers will NEVER buy a "packaged" PC, because the specs are WAY under spec. to play any really good game.
