Apple computers can run Windows, but are distributed with OS X.

Windows software will not run under OS X (with a few exceptions if you have an emulation layer such as Crossover Mac), but most software for OS X is not written by Apple.

Software such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion will let you run Windows and OS X at the same time on a Mac.

Apples use Mac OSX instead of the Windows operating system. Modern Apple computers come with an app called Bootcamp that will let them run Windows, although you have to buy a copy of Windows and install it yourself. Really, though, unless you play games that are only available for Windows, there's no reason you would need it Windows on a Mac. All the popular productivity software is available in Mac versions. As a matter of fact MS Office for Mac was rated better than MS Office for Windows! If you use graphics programs such as Photoshop, you'll get a better experience with a Mac, as well. Also, if you edit your own videos (like those taken with a digital camcorder), there is a program called Final Cut that is only available for the Mac that blows everything else out of the water.
